Data from the Nevada Department of Health and Human Services reveals that among 54,385 alcohol and drug-related hospital admissions, 21,084 were alcohol-related and 33,301 drug-related. Alcohol was the primary substance in 13% of all admissions, while methamphetamines/speed were primary in 15% of female and 11% of male admissions.
In 2020, the State of Nevada Department of Health and Human Services reported that Nevada recorded 804 alcohol-related deaths, with preliminary data showing 776 in 2021. Drug-related deaths increased from 1,399 in 2020 to 1,511 in 2021. Methamphetamines led to unintentional overdose deaths, with a 44% year-over-year rise. Overdose deaths also surged for benzodiazepines (91%), fentanyl (223%), and prescription opioids (67%). From February 1 to 13, 2023, 38.4% of adults in Nevada documented symptoms of anxiety or depressive disorder, compared to 32.3% nationwide, according to data from the KFF.
